Compensation of Oxygen Transmittance Effects for Proximal Sensing Retrieval of Canopy–Leaving Sun–Induced Chlorophyll Fluorescence

2018

Estimates of Sun–Induced vegetation chlorophyll Fluorescence (SIF) using remote sensing techniques are commonly determined by exploiting solar and/or telluric absorption features. When SIF is retrieved in the strong oxygen (O 2 ) absorption features, atmospheric effects must always be compensated. Whereas correction of atmospheric effects is a standard airborne or satellite data processing step, there is no consensus regarding whether it is required for SIF proximal–sensing measurements nor what is the best strategy to be followed. Thus, by using simulated data, this work provides a comprehensive analysis about how atmospheric effects impact SIF estimations on proximal sensing, regarding: (…

Segregation of lipid in Ir-dye/DMPA mixed monolayers as strategy to fabricate 2D supramolecular nanostructures at the air–water interface

2008

A novel pseudospherical fluorinated iridium(III) derivative, Ir-dye/PF6, [Ir(F2-ppy)2(bpy)]PF6 (F2-ppy = 2-(2,4-difluoro)phenylpyridine, bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine), has been organized by using a lipid matrix, DMPA (dimyristoyl-phosphatidic acid), in several molar ratios at the air–water interface. The molecular organization of both components and the degree of miscibility in the different mixed films have been inferred by surface techniques such as π–A isotherms, ellipsometry, reflection spectroscopy, Brewster angle microscopy (BAM), and IR spectroscopy for the LB films, additionally the results have been discussed according to the additivity rule. The equimolecular Ir-dye/DMPA mixture leads to…

Supramolecular assembly using helical peptides

1997

Abstract We investigated supramolecular assemblies of various hydrophobic helical peptides. The assemblies were formed at the air/water interface or in aqueous medium. The hexadecapeptide, Boc-(Ala-Aib)8-OMe (BA16M), was reported to take α-helical structure by X-ray analysis. Several derivatives were prepared, which have the repeating sequence of Ala-Aib, Lys(Z)-Aib or Leu-Aib, or have the terminal chemically modified. CD spectra of the peptides indicated helical conformation in ethanol solution. The surface pressure-area isotherms of the peptide monolayers showed an inflection at the surface area corresponding to the cross section along the helix axis, and the monolayers were collapsed by …

Relationships between fatty acid monolayer structure on the subphase and on solid substrates

1991

Abstract Docosanoic acid monolayers with known molecular packings on the water surface have been deposited on thin polymer films and then investigated using transmission electron diffraction at normal and tilted incidence. The diffraction patterns from monolayers deposited under all conditions investigated could be indexed as arising from the same conformationally disordered centred rectangular packing with molecules standing perpendicular to the substrate, although with a spread of unit cell parameters within and between each deposition condition significantly greater than the experimental error. This packing has been seen in monolayers on the water surface, but only under conditions compl…

Monte Carlo Simulation of Langmuir Monolayer Models

1998

We study a coarse grained, continuum model for Langmuir monolayers, i.e., monolayers of amphiphilic molecules on a polar substrate. The amphiphiles are represented by stiff chains of beads with one end grafted to a planar surface. Monte Carlo Simulations at constant pressure have been performed, using simulation boxes of variable size and variable shape. A number of techniques have been explored in order to obtain an efficient simulation algorithm. We discuss the resulting phase diagram, characterize the different phases, and analyze the conditions, under which they can be found.

An X-ray scattering study of lipid monolayers at the air-water interface and on solid supports

1988

Abstract Monolayers of the lipid arachidic acid (C20) and of the phospholid dimyristolyphosphatidic acid (PMDA) have been studied by X-ray reflection and diffraction technique, using a purpose-built Langmuir trough installed at the sample stage of our high-resolution X-ray diffractometer at the DORIS synchroton X-ray source in Hamburg. For comparison we also report data for monolayers of C20 on a solid support using a 10 kW rotating anode X-ray source. By the X-ray reflection method, the density profile across the interface is probe, while in-plane diffraction measurements gauge the two-dimensional crystalline properties of the monolayers. Flourescence microscopy experiments of DMPA monolay…

On the demands on imaging spectrometry for the monitoring of global vegetation fluorescence from space

2013

Vegetation fluorescence when measured from space contributes only a tiny fraction of the signal coming on top of the reflected radiance by the Earth surface and the atmosphere. As a consequence, imaging spectrometers have to provide sufficient throughput and radiometric accuracy to enable accurate global monitoring of the daily to seasonal variations of the Earth's vegetation breath, which is particularly challenging if ground resolutions of a few hundred meters are targeted. Since fluorescence retrieval algorithms have to make corrections for atmospheric effects, it is necessary to provide sufficient spectral resolution, so that signal alterations due to the main parameters such as surface…

Scanning electrochemical microscopy as a probe of Ag+ binding kinetics at Langmuir phospholipid monolayers

2005

A new method has been developed for measuring local adsorption rates of metal ions at interfaces based on scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM). The technique is illustrated with the example of Ag+ binding at Langmuir phospholipid monolayers formed at the water/air interface. Specifically, an inverted 25 microm diameter silver disc ultramicroelectrode (UME) was positioned in the subphase of a Langmuir trough, close to a dipalmitoyl phosphatidic acid (DPPA) monolayer, and used to generate Ag+ via Ag electro-oxidation. The method involved measuring the transient current-time response at the UME when the electrode was switched to a potential to electrogenerate Ag+. Since the Ag+/Ag couple…
